Last Friday, when I was on my way home from work, I saw these posters at the central station. They were made by Stang Gubbels and are posted at every station for quite a while now.
But it’s not the posters but the illustrator that I wanted to talk to you about, because he has this very funny functionality built into his website called ’send your own Stang’.

A little bit about Stang Gubbels.
“His full name is ‘Constantijn Thomas Maria Gubbels’, but he is known to the world as ‘Stang’.
Born on September 5th 1966 in Weert, Southern Netherlands, Stang studied at the Rotterdam Art Academy and finished in 1990. After working as an Art Director for various advertising agencies on accounts such as Peugeot Cars, Sara Lee D.E. and center Parcs, Stang became a freelance illustrator in 1993.
He works on computer buttons, corporate logos, personal logos, and pictograms. He is known for simple and clear representation (suitable for pictograms), but is equally clever at witty styles. His work has received various nominations by the Dutch Art Director’s Club.
Some of his clients include Police Rotterdam, Air UK, Royal PTT Netherlands, Royal Bijenkorf Department Store, Postbank, Playboy, Philips, Bull, and KLM. Stang has made various animation’s and also worked on websites for KPN and Wolter Kluwer.”1
