For those of you who keep a careful eye on their browser’s address bar; you may or may not have noticed that Google changed its favicon – it’s that nice little image before a URL.

Google swapped the blue capital G with a colourfully outlined square (
) for a stylish lowercast g (the second g in the Google logo). It now features a slight gradient on the white background, which makes it more ‘Web 2.0′.
I found an old image that explains the use of colour in the old logo. I think it speaks for itself. But to me, it’s nothing more than just a quick favicon.

The new favicon does have an explanation, according to this website: the small g should represent the symbol of infinity (∞). Since Google got its name derived from the number ‘googol’, a 1 followed by 100,000 zeroes, this all should represent the incredible size of Google’s search engine.
I think it’s a good thing there appears to be an explanation in the new favicon, but I’m not sure if I like it. In a way, the capital G is more like Google.
I don’t really like the new one, it less Google that the other one in my opinion..
Google should look like 1995 and better not try to be a web 2.0 site!
I don’t agree with you Jankees. I think the old favicon was too old fashioned. I don’t think it’s web 2.0 (i hate this definition).
g > G
but google is web 2.0, right?
yeah it’s web 2.0 and all… But since they’ve changed, I still have trouble to find google in all mij open tabs… the old one stood out, this fades in…
