So we – the angry men – bought 3000 stickers with our logo and URL this week. And for the next month or so, we might be doing more pasting outside our houses for a change, instead of the ‘ctrl+v‘ kind of pasting. Starting in my hometown – Breda – I am sticker spanking as much as I can. During my travels across town I came across some wonderful sticker designs of colleagues.

Stickers are a nice way of getting your work shown to the masses. It is much quicker than spray painting or tagging, and it allows you to work in a more detailed resolution. Check out this website for some nice examples of sticker graffiti.

Of course stickering is not allowed everywhere and this brings up the ol’ graffiti discussion. Some people may say that it is vandalism and therefore illegal. Others may think of it as a way of creating art and making a place more beautiful and thus should be allowed.

I think that all public owned property like traffic lights and waste bins, could use a little cheering up and are a good place to exhibit. Things like monuments, or private property should be left alone. And when you look around in the city, you will see that most people follow these unwritten rules of play.

This all reminds me a little bit of an old Dutch collective, active for about eleven years, called ‘Wild Plakken’. These people designed the most beautiful posters with left winged political ideas, and pasted them all over Amsterdam in the 70’s and 80’s. ‘Wild Plakken’ could be translated as ‘unauthorized bill-posting’, and front man Rob Schr
