If you were reading the Metro today, you may have seen the frontpage article about crop circles that have been appearing around the world. In Nieuwe-Vennep (the Netherlands), it appears that three crop circles were burned in crop fields in a triangle formation. On the backpage of the newspaper there was more information about this seemingly ‘great’ news. Three teenagers even made a movie of 3 UFOs flying above their heads using their cellphones!
The whole crop circle-thing was rather mysterious en the article referred to www.feeldifferent.com.
While working, I visited the website. It was a website about the new shaving device with 3 razorblades from Philips. The whole UFO propaganda was just one big commercial stunt to get our attention.
But not only was there a big news stunt and a website, Philips also built a game were you can play to ‘feel different’, because they are claiming that shaving with the promoted device really feels different.
The whole UFO-campaign this morning doesn’t seem to match with the rest of the crossmedia campaign, because of the derogatory design. But who looks at the website understands that the shaving device is almost Alien!

Hmm, saw the campaign, but I doubt the effectiveness of these kind of cross medial advertisements. Anyway, it doesn’t trigger me to visit the website or play a game. Very nice idea tough!
I think they wanted to create a huge buzz, but it didn’t happened. It’s not great news or something. why should you talk about a larger advertorial in a newsarticleshape if it ain’t real news?
