Yesterday my dad was updating his Macbook with the latest update… when he was updating the installation halted and nothing happened. He called me and asked what to do.. When he explained the problem I told him just to hold the power button for 4 seconds and then just try the update again.

But when he tried to reboot he just refused to boot. It just didn’t came across the boot screen! Luckily a few months earlier I told my parents about Timemachine and how it could prevent data loss.. I did not need it however until today. I drove to my parents house with just the installation dvd. When I arrived my mother was already in a panic. She had not seen her email for one day..

At that time I was wishing that Timemachine was as friendly to use as the say in the advertisement.. The first thing I tried was booting it in safe mode. But nothing happened. Okay then I’ll just try to put back a Timemachine backup… I booted from the installation dvd, and chose to restore the whole volume to the last backup (the one of one morning ago!)

I really love it when software is this user friendly, it was as easy as selecting what backup to restore and choose the volume… then just wait..

I just saved the day!
